Manager's Report - April 2018
#ThankALineman on April 9
Butler Electric Cooperative will be celebrating Lineman Appreciation Day on April 9. We are very fortunate to have quality men who are dependable, efficient and, above all, safe. Let them know you appreciate the hard work they do to keep the lights on, regardless of the conditions. In our communities, linemen are responsible for keeping 2,100 miles of lines across seven counties working. They bring power to your home and our local community 24/7, regardless of the weather, holidays or personal considerations. If you see a lineman, please pause to say thank you to the power behind your power! #ThankALineman
Thank You for Joining Us
We had a great turn out for our 80th Annual Meeting held on March 15. For those members who were able to attend, we hope you had the opportunity to talk to our employees, visit vendor booths and enjoy the meal. This is an event our employees look forward to each spring, and our 80th celebration made it even more special. We were excited to have the opportunity to announce details of our new high-speed internet service, Velocity. We continue to encourage members and non-members who are interested signing up for or learning more about our internet service to visit join.velocity.coop. Once you are registered, you will be kept up to date on timelines and schedules of internet availability.
Our mission is to provide a high quality, reliable and affordable internet experience to our membership. It’s clear that high-speed internet access is no longer a “nice-to-have” but a “must-have.” From telemedicine to distance learning and online job searches to business-to-business communications, our members’ well-being and our local economies depend on accessing the wealth of resources made available through high-speed internet access.
Electric co-ops are well-positioned to make rural broadband materialize. We have the technology and infrastructure know-how to design and build broadband networks. Butler Electric is confident that we are doing our part in making the vision of a fully connected America a reality.
America’s electric cooperatives have designated the second Monday of April as National Lineman Appreciation Day. On April 9, 2018, Butler Electric Cooperative will honor the dedicated men and women who often work in challenging conditions to keep the lights on. We proudly recognize all electric linemen for the services they perform around the clock in dangerous conditions to keep power flowing and protect the public’s safety.
“Our lineworkers are the first responders of our electric distribution system, and they work around the clock on high-voltage lines,” said Dale Short, CEO. “Conditions can be dangerous, but they power through to ensure reliable service for our members.”
Fifteen linemen maintain more than 2,000 miles of line in Butler’s service territory. To honor our linemen, Butler Electric plans to recognize our linemen and thank them for the hard work they do. Butler Electric would like to invite members to thank our linemen for the work they do. You can do this by sending a note of thanks or a card to our linemen.
