In December 2018, Butler Electric Cooperative energized a 1-megawatt solar farm located south of Andover. The Pony Meadows Solar Farm is a $1.9 million state-of-the-art facility owned by Regional Media Corporation, a Butler subsidiary, and maintained by Butler. The renewable energy source is comprised of over 4,000 panels mounted on a single-axis system which tracks the sun during daylight hours for maximum sun exposure. The life of the solar farm is estimated at 25 years, making it an economical way to help control power costs for Butler’s member-owners.
